Big Unit going back to Diamondbacks?

Baseball Betting Lines

12/25/2006 - Newark, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Randy Johnson's days with the New York Yankees could be numbered.

According to a report in the Newark Star-Ledger, the Yankees are in discussions with the Diamondbacks to trade Johnson, a five-time Cy Young Award winner, back to Arizona.

The 43-year-old Johnson, who has a full no-trade clause in his contract with New York, pitched for the Diamondbacks from 1999-2004 and led the team to the World Series title in 2001 over the Yankees. Four of his Cy Young Awards have come in Arizona, while the other was in 1995 with Seattle.

A 10-time All-Star, Johnson has compiled a 34-19 record in his two seasons with the Yankees. That included a 17-11 record with a 5.00 ERA in 33 starts this past season. He has $16 million due in his final year of his deal with the Yankees in 2007.

A baseball official told the Star-Ledger the Yankees don't want to pay any of Johnson's salary as part of a potential trade.

Another issue with Johnson is his status for the start of next season. He had surgery at the end of the season to repair a herniated disc in his back, pitching through the injury in the latter part of this season.

Johnson has compiled 280 wins over his 19-year career. He thrived at Arizona, compiling a 103-49 record.
