Owings finished the 2011 campaign perfect, going 8-0 and compiling a career- best 3.57 earned run average in 33 games (four starts) for Arizona.

 

A third-round draft pick in 2005, Owings has played five seasons with the Diamondbacks (2007-08, 2011) and Reds (2009-10), appearing in 132 games (68 starts) with a 32-31 record and a 4.91 ERA.

 

Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago Cubs avoided arbitration with Matt Garza on Friday, signing the starter to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Chicago Tribune reported the settlement to be for $9.5 million. Garza had requested $12.5 million, while the Cubs had offered $7.95 million.

 

The former first-round draft pick (25th overall) by the Twins played two major league seasons with Minnesota and three with Tampa Bay before joining the Cubs in an eight-player trade in January 2011. In two postseasons with the Rays, 2008 and 2010, Garza was 2-1 with a 3.48 ERA.

 

Belisle notched a career-best 10 wins in 2011, leading all MLB relievers, compared with only four loses. He posted a 3.25 earned run average in 74 appearances.

 

The 31-year-old righty has a career mark of 36-32 with a 4.48 ERA in 306 games, 43 as a starter, over eight major league seasons with the Reds and Rockies.

 

"You guys all know how hard I play on the field," Hamilton said. "When I don't do that off the field. I leave myself open for a weak moment. And I had a weak moment on Monday in Dallas."

 

"Ian [Kinsler] did not know I had been drinking because once I do drink I can be very deceptive, very sneaky in a lot of ways," Hamilton said.

 

"Anytime I drink there is a point that comes and the switch flips and you never know when it's going to be," Hamilton said. "Whether it's the first three or four or the 15th. That's why its so dangerous."

 

But, it was a relapse nonetheless and sadly it probably won't be the last.
